Take my advice! Don't play around with computer settings!
UGH!
Silly me, I decided to fiddle with some of the MS Office functions loaded on my laptop. To me it seemed like every time I wanted to do something I needed to pull out the CD blah blah blah.
Soooo, I was in word and it asked for the CD. Tired of always having to do this, I decided I might as well see what else in word was currently set the same way. I clicked to add new functions, and accept.
The message of doom appeared! It was saying it could not find a certain file.......and to either locate it on the computer or contact vendor? WTF? Did a search on Microsoft for the error message, and the only true mention of it linked me to a message board for IT types. Seems when you buy your computer with pre-loaded office as a trial and then upgrade to full office your supposed to do a whole series of steps that no one ever told you about.
To make it worse, when I received my laptop in the mail......it had no CD's with it nor paperwork. They expected you to simply go to the webpage and download PDF files for the manual. It came loaded with MS Works and Office. When the trial period was over, I was already attending college. Through the trial expired link I purchased MS office student and teacher 2003. Somewhere over the past year, since I now have a CD copy of version I am using.......I deleted the files that showed up everytime I ran the Disk Cleanup wizard. LOL! The error message was referring to a file in that group!!!!!
The IT heads at the board said you have to uninstall everything under MS office, and reinstall just the new version. I DELETED! ***you can smack me now!***
Went to reinstall....and........it asked for the serial number. It is on the shiny sticker that is on the actual receipt that came in the mail with the CD set.....at my mom's home....that I have no access to.
**faints**
So I started trying to recovery my settings. and it kept saying unsuccessful. :(
This is way tooo long and needn't be.........I went in the no no files and further deleted things.........a few minutes ago when I retried the restore function, IT WORKED!!!! ***kissy face to the computer gods***
Talk about being scared Sh$tless that I had screwed up majorily.
So how was you day?
