nyc trip in august and yarn shops I hit
Since I'm so flighty in regards to my knitting at this time given that I'm doing a full-time class load & am pretty much seperated from my stash. It's hard cause I've been in a total lace shawl and lace sock mode, and am dying to try out the Magic Loop method. Then I can do 2 socks at once on one needle! Rawks!
I had the wonderful treat of visiting NY for 2 days recently. First time back in over 4 years! Drove up early Saturday AM so that I could hit a yarn store before they close. Yarn shops in NY and pretty much anywhere (old style shops) are like beauty shops in the way they keep hours. They close at 5pm and are closed Sunday & Monday. Blows. I was soooo looking forward to getting into Flying Needles in Irvington NY. They are the ones that have the Blue Van with the Faux Ball of Yarn and Needles on top of it. Luckily I had pulled up their webpage to get the address, found out they were closed for a month while relocating to a larger space close by.
Well, Went to The Knitting Niche in Greenwich CT.
Very nice selection, and the depth that they carry of colorways was great too. So used to looking and not finding the exact yarn you would want. usually you have to make some compromise, be it price wise or lack of a local resource. I left there with:
1 book: No Pattern Knits: Simple Modular Techniques for Making Wonderful Garments and Accessories by Pat Ashforth, Steve Plummer.
had looked for this one for a while. They are the brainiacs behind Wooly Thoughts. Go check them out as they have great patterns based on MATH. They sell patterns via the site. Saddly the other books they have written are all out of print, and it is hit or miss in a LYS to com across a copy.
1 fibertrend pattern: for a square knit in the round blanket with different lace trims.
6 skeins of koigu! 2 skeins each of 3 colors.
(these pictures are not of the exact skeins, no scanner nor camera currently.....but these are the best ones I found of Koigu that match the yarn in my hands)
Will post tomorrow about another shop and what I bought there.
